at high speeds coasting

Problem
vehicle came to shop with a loud rear racheting noise only at high speeds when coasting, if I give it alitle of gas it goes away. It sounds to me like mabye transfere case chaine is too loose. I can't make this happen when the truck is up in the air. Any sujestions?
