Current Complaint: Slow reverse and drive. Reverse was 3 seconds. Drive was 1,1/2-2 seconds. It has a rough 5-4 coast down shift. The faster you stop the harder the coast down shift. I pulled the valve body to check for a stuck valve or something when I built the transmission. I did not take the valve body apart. Everything looked good but when I did a vacuum test on the main regulator valve it was around 16". I thought for sure that was the problem. I ordered the reamer and oversized valve. I drilled a hole above the valve body on the pressure side to install the pressure gage. I put a hole in the pan and epoxied the hose with a quick connect. I still had the same problem.
Pressures P65 R110 N65 D65 The pressure rise seems to be slow.
I pulled the valve body to change EPC but it didn't work. I decided to pull the transmission and changed pump stator and G and D clutch support. I checked everything and it looked good. I drilled a hole in the main line on the outside of case, it is a lot nicer than on the inside.
I put the transmission in and the reverse and drive were fixed. The pressure rise was a lot faster.but I did not write down the pressures but I remember park to reverse the pressure was 140 to 180 within 2 seconds. I’m not sure what the problem was but I think it is the pump starter. The customer came and got his car. Two weeks later I get a call from him, when he is slowing down the 5-4 coast down shift is very rough but not every time. He said it happened the first day and he was hoping it would relearn and if he slows down slowly it is not as bad. I told him to drive it for a while longer and if it doesn’t get better I would take his car to ZF to reset the transmission.
I ordered a valve body kit from ZF. It’s only for a BMW transmission. Everything is pretty much the same. There are two orifices that will not fit in the valve body, it’s too small of an orifice pocket. Orifices 27,160 and 27,154. I think I may have left out orifice 27,104. I took that orifice out of the BMW kit yellow .065 hole. They brought me the car on Saturday and I borrowed a launch scanner hoping it would reset the computer, however I could not find any way to reset the computer. I took the car for a drive and the forward and reverse engagement is a bit too firm. I did not have time to put a pressure gage on it. I decided to put orifice 27,104 in. I filled the transmission up with oil and went for a drive. The coast down shift was very hard. I called the customer and said I will get the car back and take it to the dealer. When I delivered the car to him two miles away, it didn’t do it once.
I am hoping somebody has a valve body book or a valve body.
